Current Season
Celebrating our first 30 Years
I am proud to introduce you to the Firehall Arts Centre’s 30th Anniversary Season. Thirty amazing years in a partnership with a building is not unlike a marriage where surprises, joys, and sorrows wrap around day-to-day living and the challenge of keeping the passion alive. The thirty years of partnership with the firehall building have not been ones of convenience but ones of love for its nature, for its idiosyncrasies and the continually changing challenges and benefits it presents to us daily. Again, not unlike a marriage! In many traditions when you celebrate thirty years of marital bliss, you receive the gift of pearls. That said, although the gift of pearls would be great, we would much rather invite you to join us in celebrating our “Pearl” 2012-2013 anniversary season as we keep the passion alive.
Over thirty seasons, like little grains of sand from which pearls grow, layers of artistry began to accumulate creating theatrical works resonating and revealing stories of Canada and the world; creating movements and choreographies that were ethereal and explosive and creating audiences who shared in the one of a kind experiences that only live performances can offer. When one turns thirty in life – one’s life is just beginning with lots to look forward to; when one celebrates thirty in a partnership or a marriage, people applaud and celebrate how long it has been or what an amazing feat it is to have made it that long. We see our thirtieth anniversary season as a bit of both as we look forward with excitement but continue to build on the strengths of the past. This year we bring artists back to the Firehall who have worked with us or with other guest/resident companies over the years while introducing new faces, new ideas, and new grains of sand to the mix.
Playwrights and choreographers; actors and dancers; directors and designers; stage managers and technicians; musicians and visual artists; administrative and customer service staff – all ready to create new layers of artistry, new experiences for our audiences and new memories for all. Join us as we continue to build on the past, celebrate the present and create a new future in a building that is unlike any other in Vancouver.
See you at the theatre,

Donna Spencer,
Artistic Producer
