Update as of September 2020:
“With a positive outlook, we are preparing to welcome guests back in to the Firehall Theatre for the 2020/2021 Season. Over the summer we hosted the Dancing on the Edge Festival, Pride Performance Empowers Weekend, and the Music in the Courtyard series, both in our wonderful courtyard and in our theatre. These summer events allowed us to test and refine what works best to keep everyone as safe as we possibly can, including the best places to position the hand sanitizing stations, which route works best to get to the washrooms and back to seating without having to be jammed together in hallways and how best to encourage patrons to be patient and stand in physically-distanced places while waiting to be seated by our staff. Feedback from audiences and artists has been so positive as they see the care we are taking to bring music and artistic experiences to life during these times. They have been thanking our staff every night, sending personal emails expressing how important attending a performance was for their emotional and mental health and in many cases making donations and saying they will be back.”
Firehall Arts Centre COVID-19 Safety Protocols
How Seating Has Changed
Due to physical distancing restrictions, the theatre is operating at a capacity of 40 seats for patrons. In order for us to ensure patrons are appropriate distances from one another we have changed seating for all productions to general seating. Seats will be staggered, with no one sitting in front or behind anyone, and at least three seats between patrons. Our box office staff are coordinating seats for patrons according to space and the groups they will be attending in, with a maximum group size of four. We ask patrons with any seating requests to let us know online in their reservations notes, or over the phone with a staff member. We cannot guarantee that seating requests will be met, but we will try our best.
The following is a list of all the safety measures we’ve put in place so that we may safely continue bringing art to the community we hold dear.
–We have developed a COVID-19 Safety Plan which will be posted in accessible locations for volunteers, staff, and patrons
–There will be increased sanitation of surface areas
–Hand sanitizer will be easily available
–We have installed at both of our box office desks, and our bar, plexi glass borders to maintain a barrier between staff and patrons.
–Signage has been posted throughout our lobby to remind volunteers, staff, and patrons to maintain a physical distance of 2 metres.
–Theatre capacity has been reduced to 40 seats, separated following appropriate physical distancing guidelines.
–A new lobby flow has been created to keep patrons at appropriate physical distances.
–According to the new lobby flow, only our upstairs washrooms will be available to patrons.
–Staff, volunteers, and patrons are required to wear masks, and we also offer Firehall branded masks for purchase.
