INNER ELDER

by Michelle Thrush
a Firehall Arts Centre Presentation

Inner Elder is a powerful new solo show created and performed by award-winning Cree actress Michelle Thrush. Through heartfelt storytelling, Michelle takes the audience on a deeply personal journey of discovery, drawing from real moments of her childhood that shaped her life. It has been described as a love letter to community.

A humorous memoir that weaves together memory, spirit, and land, allowing the audience to witness the magical power of transformation through the powerful magic of… our grandmothers.

Event Details

Michelle Thrush has a compelling story to tell, but it’s the elegant, sly way she weaves it that makes Inner Elder a treat.
— Hobson, Calgary Herald

Inner Elder was developed during workshops in the 2017 supported by Lunchbox & One Yellow Rabbit. The performance premiered at the 2018 High Performance Rodeo at Lunchbox.

Our Place in the World
The Firehall is where my family’s stories began to be told again.

We’re Grateful to Be Here.

The Firehall Arts Centre is located on the unceded and traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) First Nations where they lived and gathered together for thousands of years. Acknowledging their connections to these lands is a significant part of what the Firehall considers when choosing the productions and presentations we undertake and how that work shapes and impacts those around us. We ask our community to reflect on what being present here means to you and those around you.
