"Tarzan" Dan Freeman

Best known for his Canadian radio and tv persona "Tarzan" Dan, Dan Freeman has recently carved a niche for himself behind the lens with his images. Dan began his career by taking audition photos of his wife, a professional dancer which grew into bigger ideas and concepts and led to being published and commissioned internationally.

Little Tokyo in the Industrial Playground

Interested in the industrial nature of the neighbourhood he works in, Speier’s practice is about the urban geographical vernacular of recycling and salvaging found objects and materials for reuse and repurpose in his work. Working with these found fragments and objects and utilizing obsolete technology of the 1970s and 1980s to reconfigure parts and motors, Speier has created hand-made and self-made technologies speaking to the transformation of a Vancouver industrial area.

Peace at War

This exhibit features archival images of Vancouver and propaganda posters created during times of war.Each photograph represents an aspect of the sacrifice and service that people endured in World War I and World War II. At the same time Canadians were seeking victory over enemies of their freedom, many were also seeking victory over the cultural intolerance found at the root of many wars.

Courtship Colour Studies
a photo-based work by Catherine M. Stewart

Catherine Stewart's latest photo-based works are an extension of her recent investigations in natural history. Courtship Colour Studies grew out of her interest in the colour differences leading to sexual attraction between male and female songbirds. Using the zoological collection at the University of British Columbia, Stewart selected several pairs of songbird specimens and scanned them to create the foundation for the digital prints in the exhibit.
